FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Democrat incumbent Tom Henry has more money to spend than Republican challenger Paula Hughes in the remaining 18 days of the Fort Wayne mayor's race.

The candidates had to file their campaign finance reports on Friday.

According to the reports, Henry's coffers are more full, but Hughes appears to be in good position to run hard right to the end as well.

Mayor Henry's filing showed he began the period April 9th with about $603,000 in the bank.

He raised an additional $526,000 through October 14th, pushing his total to more than $1.13-million.

He spent $811,000 during the period, leaving him with $318,000 cash on hand.

Hughes started with roughly $89,000, and raised $557,000 for a total of above $646,000.

After spending $425,000, she has $221,000 left for the stretch run.

At the election board Friday morning, she said she's got several big fund-raisers coming up.

Paula Hughes/(R) Fort Wayne Mayoral Nominee: " So, there's still money rolling in. Senator Coats is going to be here, Congressman Stutzman has done an event, Governor Daniels is going to be doing an event, so we fully expect that we will have all the money we need to be successful in this campaign."

Henry sent a campaign representative to file his report, and we were told he was too busy to talk on camera.

However, his campaign released a statement, saying in part, “The report demonstrates the campaign's strong financial position…and that the campaign has the resources to win."

Henry also played up that he has nearly $100,000 more on hand than Hughes.

Independent candidate Haley Ahrendt raised $200 during the period, and reported a cash balance of $50 on October 14th.
