FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne Community Schools Board Member Kevin Brown talks about his re-election effort after his recent DUI arrest.

On Monday night, Brown attended his first board meeting since his arrest at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14.

Brown did not apologize or speak publicly during the meeting about his drunk driving arrest.

Brown said he has already expressed his remorse about his mistake to the public during his television interviews last week.

However, Brown did take some time after the meeting to speak with Indiana's NewsCenter.

Brown said he can not change what happened, but the former math teacher and track coach said he has a message for kids, "you're going to make mistakes in life... but you have to own up to them."

Meanwhile, if Brown was not going to specifically address details of his DUI arrest, Indiana's NewsCenter wanted answers to two other questions.

1. Would Brown step down from the FWCS Board if pressured by community leaders?

"When I go door to door (campaigning), I'll make an apology to my constituents, when I knock on their door, when they answer," said FWCS Board Member Kevin Brown.

2. When will Brown apologize in person to his 4th district constituents?

"If I would happen to not run in the 4th district, then that diversity would be absent on the board. So I think you have to look at the representation on the board and the people that fight for those in their district because similar backgrounds, similar upbringings," said Brown.

Meanwhile, Brown will sit down with his lawyer Tuesday and go over his legal strategy.

He said he does not agree with everything that was documented in the police report, including the precise level of his blood alcohol content.

Brown will be in court Wednesday, September 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Brown said he wants to talk more with Indiana's NewsCenter about his DUI arrest after that hearing.
