FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Every year since 2008, employees of a Fort Wayne company have ranked it one of the best places to work in the state.
Brotherhood Mutual employs about 300 people. What makes it remarkable is that those workers consistently rank it as one of the best places to work in Indiana.
Brotherhood Mutual insures churches in 43 states and has three value statements: be the leader in products, build the kingdom to allow churches to grow, and bless the laborers, and the company takes blessing the laborers seriously.
The management team actively pursues ways that employees can feel engaged in the work they do, and finds avenues to help workers in their lives. All employees' college-age kids are guaranteed full-time summer jobs.
If you want to go on a mission trip, the company will pay up to $750 of that.
There's a fitness center and a wellness coach on staff who works one on one with employees, and when workers asked for an outdoor walking path, the company built one.
As you can imagine, Brotherhood Mutual doesn't have to recruit for the 25 jobs it adds every year, when it truly believes in a work-life balance.
"Our employees work about 40 to 45 hours, very few ever work overtime. We just feel like it's not appropriate, so we'd rather hire additional staff and keep our overtime down. It causes your cost to be a little higher, but it helps your morale. And then when they are here for the 40 hours, of course everybody works that much more time of dedication and efficiency. So it's really family friendly, it's really facing that. So we love doing that together," says President and Chairman Mark Robison.
As Brotherhood Mutual continues to grow its mission, it's building a new 60,000 sq. ft. facility next door that will be joined by a two-story glass bridge across a pond. That building is expected to open in the summer of next year, and 100 jobs should be added within the next four years.
