BLUFFTON, Ind. (21Alive) -- The Bluffton High School athletic director is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle driven by the school's principal.

Witnesses tell police, principal Steve Baker and athletic director Steve Thompson were engaging in horseplay in the parking lot yesterday morning after a staff meeting at the school.

Police say Baker then got into his vehicle and drove up behind Thompson and honked his horn. Thompson then threw a bag on the hood of Baker's vehicle. Thompson went to retrieve the bag but Baker began to accelerate forward causing Thompson to fall backwards and hit his head on the pavement. Thompson was transported to Lutheran Hospital where he had to undergo surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.

At last report, Thompson was being treated for head trauma, no word yet if Baker will face charges.
