BLUFFTON, Ind. (NBC33) - The Bluffton Fire Department is looking for some help in the form of experienced firefighters. The department has posted openings for three "paid on-call" firefighters that have already acquired state-mandated certifications.
"Paid on-call" crews are allowed to have employment elsewhere as they are only paid when responding to a call.
Bluffton Fire Chief Chris Broderick admits while this is not the ideal manner of recruiting new hires, certain restraints have lead to this.
"There's some funding issues on the state level in regards to the district firefighter training that is right now preventing us from having a Firefighter One and Two class," says Chief Broderick. "That's why we're actively seeking people that have moved into our jurisdiction that already has the mandatory minimum."
If you are interested in applying, feel free to call the Bluffton Fire Department at 260-824-6050 or pick up an application at the Bluffton Clerk-Treasurer's office at 124 East Market Street.
