FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Good news to report about the health of Fort Wayne City Council Member Marty Bender, who fell ill in the middle of last week.

According to his wife, the long-time police officer and current President of City Council has been taken off a respirator, is awake, knows his family and is talking a little.

Peggy Bender says when asked what year it is, Marty Bender answered, "it's the year we take back Congress."

Bender became ill and was rushed to the hospital last Wednesday, following what was reported as a seizure-like incident.

Peggy Bender says more tests will be conducted to discover the cause of the episode.

It's unclear how long before bender could return to council business.
