FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Millennial Generation kicked off its celebration of the Three Rivers Festival with a downtown block party on Friday night.

A Better Fort threw the summer's first #BaaLs party in the 800 block of S. Calhoun St. From 6 p.m. to midnight, a stretch of downtown rocked out to music from DJs.

The #BaaLs concert series is an extension of the #House4aHouse event that has been running for three years. The #BaaLs name is derived from the late Fort Wayne mayor Harry Baals. A second block party is scheduled for Aug. 1st on Columbia Street.

"The objective is to take negative stereotypes and rhetoric, poke fun at them and embrace them," organizers said on a Facebook invitation.

Proceeds benefit Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.

21Alive Chief Meteorologist Curtis Smith even got in on the fun, crowd surfing over the thousands in attendance.
