BUTLER, Ind. (21Alive) -- Butler police were dispatched to the 600 block of E. Green St. in reference to a man dressed in full camouflage with a rifle in front of Eastside High School.
Officers found Chad Czaja, 34, dressed in full camouflage including a face mask and sunglasses.He refused to obey officers' commands to exit the Red Durango. According to police, officers continued to give Czaja verbal commands and he finally exited the vehicle but did not comply with additional commands. Officers moved in and secured Czaja along with a rifle and a loaded handgun.
Police say Czaja was involved in a property damage accident in front of the school and they do not believe there was any criminal intent with the weapons.
The high school was immediately placed on lock down until the incident was under control.
The Butler Police Department had Active Shooter training in October and say they take any call involving weapons in close proximity to schools very seriously.
According to police, the situation was under control in less than 10 minutes and there were no injuries. DeKalb County Police and Waterloo Police aided in the situation.
Czaja was arrested and charge with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Criminal Recklessness and Leaving The Scene Of An Accident. Further charges are possible.
