STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Murder suspect, Mahfuz Huq, was returned to Indiana Tuesday afternoon after spending over two years in custody at the Tihar Prison in New Dehli pending extradition.
In the custody of FBI agents, Huq arrived at the Indianapolis airport and then custody was transferred to Marion County Sheriff's Deputies on the Steuben County warrant of murder.
Huq was taken to the Marion County Sheriff’s Medical holding facility pending a routine examination by medical staff.
“Due to Mr. Huq’s unknown medical care background while housed in a foreign prison system, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is best equipped and staffed to take temporary custody of Mr. Huq for observations prior to his return to the Steuben County Jail”.
Once Huq is cleared by medical staff, he will be returned to the Steuben County Jail for proceedings in Steuben County Court.
Huq has been a wanted fugitive since 1989 when he was accused of killing 19-year-old Todd Kelley of Hamilton. It is believed that both Huq and Kelley were interested in the same woman, leading to the murder.
