Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A Fort Wayne doctor is under fire after patients died while in his care. The state attorney general is trying to get an emergency suspension of Dr. William Hedrick's medical license. That hearing is set for Friday afternoon.
Thursday 21 Alive got an exclusive interview with State Attorney General Greg Zoeller. He says the big question in this case is does he have the ability to properly treat his patients for pain management. That means does he have the needed training. Zoeller says that is the focus as they push forward with this case.
Dr. Hedrick of the Centers for Pain Relief is accused of dangerous prescribing habits. The attorney general’s office says numerous patients have died from multiple drug toxicity while in his care.
Zoeller says a case of this nature varies from a criminal case and his office needs the expertise of other medical professionals to answer those questions.
“What are the appropriate training and the types of practice in prescribing for these very addictive dangerous drugs in the wrong hands where they could be abused,” said Zoeller.
Friday afternoon the Medical Licensing Board will rule on this case and decide if Dr. Hedrick will be suspended from practicing medicine for 90 days. Zoeller is hoping that will happen giving his office time to further build their case while ensuring no patients will be put at risk.
