ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The State Supreme Court is ordering an Allen County judge to reduce the sentence of a young man convicted of a brutal attack at the Brighton Meadows apartment complex.
20-year-old Austin Knight was 17-when he rejected a plea offer and was convicted by a jury, and sentenced to 70-years in prison.
The Supreme Court acknowledged that Judge John Surbeck properly sentenced Knight, but said in a 3-to-2 decision that because a co-defendant about the same age had "his" sentenced reduced by the Court of Appeals, Knight should be re-sentenced to the same number of years.
The move essentially cuts 36-years off the original sentence.
