VAN WERT, Ohio (Indiana's NewsCenter) A Van Wert man has been charged with the murder of his 84-year-old grandmother, and members of the northwest Ohio community are in shock.
Police say Shawn M. Jones, 36, killed his grandmother in her home, but authorities are not releasing any information on a possible motive.
Van Wert Police discovered the body of Edna Larue at 1279 Sunrise Court, Van Wert, Ohio just after 8:30 Friday evening.
Jones was arrested several hours after the discovery at 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
Friends and neighbors of the victim say Jones was Larue's favorite grandchild.
"[Larue] did everything for him," said neighbor Carol Sarchambeau. "It's hard to believe he did that to her, unless he just lost it."
Mike Pugsley, Sarchambeau's son, worked with Jones. He says he was not surprised to learn Jones was charged with the crime.
"It didn't shock me to hear [of Jones' arrest]," said Pugsley. "[He was the kind of person] who would just blow up and decide to end a problem."
Police are still investigating the crime. Jones is scheduled to be arraigned at the Van Wert Municipal Court on Monday, October 4.
Police say more specifics on the crime will be released by the investigating officers as early as Monday.
Van Wert Police were assisted by the Van Wert City Fire Department, the Van Wert County Coroner and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigations.
