INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (RTV6) - Police are searching for details after a woman was found tied up with rope and duct tape in a basement in Indianapolis. Investigators said she was left there for at least two days.

IMPD said just before 11 a.m. Monday, construction workers who were working in the area of 323 Jefferson Ave. noticed the back door to the home at that address was open. The contractors said they had been working with the woman who lived there to replace the siding on her home, but they didn't hear or see any signs of her being there Monday morning.

The workers said they went about their business until they heard noises in the basement. IMPD said they headed inside and found the 83-year-old woman who lived in the home tied to a chair.

The contractors said the woman was tied to the chair with rope, and had so much duct tape on her mouth and head that some of her hair had to be cut to get all the duct tape off, IMPD said.

The woman told police one or more people had forced their way into the house and robbed her, leaving her tied to the chair in the basement. The woman was unable to give a thorough description to investigators of the robbers.

Investigators said the woman had been left that way for at least two days, and if the contractors hadn't noticed the noises from the basement, the situation may have had a worse outcome.

IMPD said the woman is alive but is dehydrated. Medics took her to Wishard Memorial Hospital.
