FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - It was an extra joyful New Year's for families who have babies on Jan. 1.

And for 2014, an 8-lb. baby girl earns the distinction of Fort Wayne's first baby born in the new year.

Madelynne Rose was born at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital.

For the second straight year, a Lutheran Hospital baby was the first newborn in the city in the new year. Madelynne is Lutheran's seventh New Year baby all-time, officials say.

Ten minutes later, Parkview Health saw its first baby of the new year. Serenity--a 5 lbs., 14 oz. baby girl--was born at 12:55 a.m. at Parkview Hospital Randallia.

Both babies and both mothers are doing well.
