FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A portion of Auburn Road in northern Fort Wayne has reopened following a gas line cut at a business Wednesday morning.

Construction crews working on Auburn Road hit a gas line around 8:00.

Employees at Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, 10021 Dupont Circle Ct., smelled a natural gas odor and contacted authorities.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department evacuated the 70 staff members and patients at ENT and 12 staff members at neighboring Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, 10008 Dupont Circle Ct., as a precaution.

Metering at both offices found "no elevated levels" of natural gas, and the businesses have since been reopened.

The exit ramp from Interstate 469 to Auburn Road, southbound lanes of Auburn Road at Dupont Circle Court and northbound lanes of Auburn Road at Wallen Road were closed for more than 2½ hours while NIPSCO crews fixed the cut. They were reopened around 10:30 a.m.
