FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Sears Holdings announced Thursday that the Kmart store, at 7530 S. Anthony Blvd., will be closed by mid-January.
The closure is part of an effort to reduce company costs and change the business model, corporate communications director Howard Riefs said in a statement.
"These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home," the statement read.
Riefs says the store employs 70 people, all of whom will be given the opportunity to apply for positions at other Kmart and Sears stores.
A liquidation sale of Kmart's South Anthony Boulevard store is set to begin Oct. 27.
