FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A man is left fighting for his life after being shot on Fort Wayne's southeast side Wednesday afternoon. Police are searching for a gunman but at this time have very few details about him.
The shooting happened outside a home in the 4200 block of Lillie Street.
It was just before 1:00 p.m. when a witness called 911. The caller said they saw a man, with a gunshot wound, get inside a vehicle and leave.
The caller also said they saw a man running from the crime scene. He was described as being Hispanic. Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department believe that man is their suspect. A K-9 unit was used to track the man but the trail ended just south of the crime scene.
Only minutes after the 911 call came in the victim, Tyjuan Jett, 26, showed up at Fire Station 11 on Rudisill with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he's listed in critical condition.
After further investigation FWPD determined that victim was shot on Lillie Street. But the crime scene expanded when they found more evidence.
"We identified one of the church parking lots as our crime scene as well because of evidence that was discovered there. Our fleeing perpetrator may have dropped something, so we've collected that as evidence," said Officer Raquel Foster, Fort Wayne Police Department.
That church parking lot is on McKinnie Avenue just south of the home on Lillie Street.
Police say there were other people inside the house when they arrived on scene but they were not hurt.
