FREMONT, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Fremont Community Schools recommends the school board lay-off four full-time teachers and reduce the hours of another seven, superintendent Loraine Vaughn confirmed.
Vaughn planned to propose the cuts at Tuesday night's school board meeting as a cost-saving measure in the upcoming district budget.
If approved by the board, the cuts would include the elimination of four full-time teaching positions, three at Fremont High School and one at Fremont Middle School, Vaughn says.
Four more teaching positions, two at both the high school and middle school, would be reduced from full-time to half-time status.
Also, an art teacher, a physical education teacher and a music teacher at Fremont Elementary School will have their schedules reduced to 3/4 of the day.
Vaughn says the recommendation is a result of budget discussions at previous school board meetings; and that the employment cuts are necessary.
The trustees are scheduled to vote on the plan at the district's next board meeting on June 17.
