WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Purdue will have one less big man off the bench when center Sandi Marcius transfers from the Boilermaker basketball program for next season.

Marcius, a redshirt junior, was released his from his scholarship on Thursday, Purdue University athletics announced.

"We have invested four years and significant resources into helping Sandi develop," Purdue head coach Matt Painter said in a statement. "Having Sandi here for a fifth year was in our plans and we anticipated him having a great final year in our program."

Because Marcius was a redshirt, he was in his fourth year of academics, and is likely to graduate from Purdue in May.

Marcius can transfer as a 5th-year graduate student, which will allow him to play without sitting out.

Marcius averaged 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for his career as a Boiler.
