VALPARAISO, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Lutheran schools across the United States sent teams to Valparaiso University this weekend for a national tournament of their own.
Thirty-two boys teams and 32 girls teams played in the Lutheran Basketball Association of America National Championship. Three schools from Allen County--Holy Cross Lutheran School in Fort Wayne, Saint Paul's Lutheran School in Fort Wayne and Central Lutheran School in New Haven--were all part of the field.
Central Lutheran Chargers were boys national runners-up, falling to Milwaukee Garden Homes Lutheran School, 39-35, Sunday afternoon.
Saint Paul's boys also advanced to the national semi-finals, but lost to Central Lutheran, and then to Las Vegas Faith Lutheran Junior High in the third place game.
Holy Cross boys advanced to the final 8, losing to eventual champion Milwaukee Garden Homes Saturday night. The Saders rebounded Sunday, knocking off St. Michael Lutheran of Fort Meyers, Fla., and San Antonio Shepard of the Hills Lutheran en route to a fifth place finish.
In the girls bracket, Holy Cross is the lone school from Northeast Indiana competing. After winning their first game against Atonement Lutheran School in Florissant, Mo., the Lady Saders fell to Hales Corner (Wis.) Lutheran School. From there, they went to the Consolation Bracket, and lost to Minneapolis Pilgrim Lutheran.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - As Concordia Lutheran High School's boys basketball team prepares for its first ever 3A boys basketball state finals Saturday, the next crop of potential Cadets are heading to their own basketball tournament.
The boys and girls varsity basketball teams at Holy Cross Lutheran School will play in the Lutheran Basketball Association of America's National Tournament this weekend. Central Lutheran School and Saint Paul's Lutheran School also have teams competing at the tournament hosted at Valparaiso University.
Holy Cross students and staff lined the halls Thursday afternoon for a send off for the Crusaders. The players high-fived their classmates, who chanted the motto "Have Faith. Be Strong. Believe," to show support.
The teams packed into parents' cars and headed for Valpo for an opening ceremony Thursday night. The team will play Trinity Klein Lutheran School from Spring, Texas, at 12:30 p.m. EDT Friday.
"We finished second in the state of Indiana," boys head coach Bruce Kilpatrick says. "It was an automatic qualifier, but you have to apply still; and we were accepted." (LBAA Boys Bracket)
