FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A Fort Wayne teenager has been a boost in the arm while he's home from the hospital.
Ben, 16, is a student at Homestead High School who has been in and out of the hospital for nearly a year battling pancreatitis.
"The pancreas basically destroyed everything in his abdominal cavity," Ben's mother says. "It's got to be cleaned out. Two surgeries to do that. The last one was Dec. 10 to put him all back together."
Ben has not been able to attend school, and even spent Christmas in the hospital.
He was nominated for a Share The Love care package from WLAB-FM, STAR 88.3, as a way to pick up his spirits.
"I've had kind of a past rough year," Ben says. "I'm looking forward to being back at school, and being a normal teenager again."
Ben says he's healed from the pancreatitis, but struggles with daily stamina.
STAR on-air personalities Melissa Montana and Tyler Boss surprised Ben at his home with a gift basket full of prizes from local companies.
"We're praying for you," Montana told Ben. "We're believing in miracles for you."
Nominations for STAR's Share The Love contest run through the rest of February. To nominate someone, click here.
