BERNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The body of Army Spc. Nick Taylor will return to Northeast Indiana Sunday, and preparations for his procession home are already being made.
More than 100 people gathered at South Adams High School to place an estimated 2,200 flags along the procession route in Berne.
"Just wanted to show support to them and give him, just the homecoming that he deserves," said Jaci O'Dell, volunteer. "It's really exciting for our community to see them pull together like this. I'm really happy to be a part of a place like this, that loves their own."
Larry Eckhardt, known as The Flag Man, has done this at 94 funerals across the nation.
"Our freedoms are not given to us by the politicians; they're protected by these military people," said Eckhardt. "As much tribute as I can possibly pay to this young man, I mean without him, we wouldn't be here."
Taylor's body will be flown into the 122nd Fighter Wing on Sunday afternoon. From there, the procession will wind south through Adams County. Residents are encouraged to stand along the route, wearing red, white and blue.
The visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at South Adams High School. The funeral is Tuesday at 11 a.m., also at South Adams.
