FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The record-length scarf that Parkview Health and Francine’s Friends brought to Fort Wayne will be shipped back to West Virginia today. Since August 22 sections of Terri’s Tribute’s record-length pink scarf have been on display at Auer Center for Arts and Culture and the downtown Allen County Public Library.

As the scarf returns to West Virginia, Terri’s Tribute is launching a campaign to reach the second mile of length. Currently, the scarf is 6,010 feet or 1.14 miles in length and is made up of contributions from around the country. October is breast cancer awareness month, and the goal is to reach 10,560 feet or 2 miles in length by October 31.

Locally, anyone who can crochet or knit is encouraged to contribute to the scarf. All new locally created pieces will be measured and counted to the overall length. Instead of being sent back to West Virginia, where Terri’s Tribute began, the pieces will be knit into blankets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Finished scarf sections must be no more than 7 inches wide, or 5 feet long.
• Knitting Instructions: Use size 13 needles, Knit every row
• Crocheting Instructions: Use size G hook, single crochet first row, double crochet all other rows
