PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates powered their way past
visiting Cincinnati 9-1.
Ryan Doumit, Xavier Nady and Jason Bay homered to
help the Bucs complete a three-game sweep of the Reds.
Tom Gorzelanny bounced back from one of his
worst career starts to outpitch Cincinnati rookie Johnny Cueto
. Gorzelanny was coming off the shortest of his 47
career starts, a no-decision Monday when he allowed seven runs in
two and a-third innings of the Pirates' home opener against the
Cubs. He limited the Reds to one run and four hits despite walking
four over six and a-third innings and is 1-and-1 on the year.
After outstanding performances in his first two starts, during
which he struck out 18 and didn't walk a batter, Cueto wasn't as
sharp this time out. He gave up five runs and five hits in six
innings. He struck out six but also issued his first walk. He also
is 1-and-1 this season.
