Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - This month, a couple is recognized for going "The Extra Mile" for motivating so many people.
Rick and Tina Walters founded an annual contest called "Fort Wayne's Smallest Winner."
Year five just wrapped up, but what they do to help others is so much more than a contest.
Shannon Hahn was a contestant, this year. She nominated Rick and Tina because she calls them life changers who want to make Fort Wayne a more fitness-minded community.
Rick and Tina run a business and have a family, and Shannon says they take a lot of extra time to help not only contestants, but also their families and friends.
And? Once the weeks of training are over, Rick and Tina keep in touch with their new family to keep the motivation going!
Trainers and trainees respect each other.
Shannon Hahn says, "Honestly, when I saw the Extra Mile award, it made me think of Rick and Tina because at the end of our program, we all ran a half marathon which is 13.1 miles, and I know for myself, and I think I can speak for most everybody, we never thought we could do it, ever! And I mean we did it! I've had extremely proud moments involving my children, but I can honestly say I was the most proud of myself that day ever!"
Tina Walters says, "To me, she's a woman that you're, oh my gosh, how does she do it all day? How does she take care of her six children, she has a husband, she works, and to do all of this and to make time to get a workout in and prepare a healthy meal. I was just so take back that she would take the time out of her busy schedule to write in about Rick and I."
Rick Walters says, "It's just part of the whole package. You can't lose weight with diet alone or with exercise alone or without some type of faith. They all three go hand in hand, and that's what make people successful."
Rick and Tina seem to make great connections with the people they train and help.
