Woodburn, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Indiana's NewsCenter's last Golden Apple Award of the school year takes us to Woodlan Junior/Senior High School in Woodburn where a special education teacher is recognized for changing lives forever.

In the nominating letter written by the family of special needs student Brenda Lengacher. The family says: She is appreciated by my family and I know other students' families as well. Since Brenda is graduating this spring, as a thank you to an angel in education, we would love for this teacher to be nominated for The Golden Apple Award, which she deserves more than anyone else.

The teacher is Susan Wuest. Wuest says, "I get to come to work everyday and work with a wonderful bunch of students. I have a great staff that I work with, Cindy, Sandy, Val, Crystal they're fabulous and I think that it's just a wonderful place for a class like mine to be at Woodlan Junior/Senior High School it's fabulous.

For 19 years, Susan Wuest has followed her passion, teaching special needs students. Brenda Lengacher was out ill the day of the award ceremony, but Brenda's mother says her daughter's graduation this spring is very bittersweet because it means Mrs. Wuest will no longer be her teacher.

Rosemary Lengacher, Brenda's mother says, "We're really going to miss her, but she'll always be remembered by our family and I'm sure with all her other students' families.

"We have a really good relationship." says Wuest. "It's not just student/teacher it's not just 'Do this and Get this done.' We have good bonding and that's why I come everyday I just love doing what I do."

Mrs. Wuest says as much as her students and their families may miss her when they graduate, she misses them just as much.

Many thanks to all of the companies sponsoring the Golden Apple Award. Bradley Gough Diamonds gave Mrs. Wuest a Golden Apple Pendant; Vorderman Volkswagen gave Mrs. Wuest a free car detailing and Afdent provided a "Britesmile" teeth whitening service.
