MONROE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Dozens of students think the world of their math teacher at Adams Central Middle and High School in Monroe.

Student Antonio Romero says, "Today I want to recognize special abilities in a special letter. This teacher has been the most exceptional mentor and a friend to me and others. Her willingness to help students succeed in the school she has given us an extra will to want to learn and never gives up on any students. I want to honor today Mrs. Beer for extraordinary teacher and capabilities so let's give her a round of applause she deserves it."

Teacher Julie Beer says, "I feel very honored and special to receive this award. There are so many great teachers at this school that deserve this award, but I just feel very blessed to work at such a great school with so wonderful students and teachers so, thank you.

Julie Beer has been teaching at Adams Central for six years. Dozens of students nominated her for the award, which made her feel very special. One of the many lessons she's learned from her students is that making them feel special is the key to success in the classroom.

"If you can show them that you respect them and you care about them and they know that, then they are willing to give so much more to you," says Beer. "If you're trying to teach them and help them, if they know that you care and you just want them to be successful, and you're trying to do everything that you can to help them be more successful."

For an extra sweet ending to our story, one student made Golden Apple cupcakes for Mrs. Beer.
