BLUFFTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - “Her devotion and love for her students makes her a teacher that will never be forgotten. Even though I am a senior in high school I still have vivid memories of when I was her student in first grade. I would have to say I envy the students who have the privilege to walk into her classroom everyday. Thank you, Mrs. Rodgers” says nominating student, Robert Wolf.

Lyn Rodgers has taught at Lancaster Central for the last 31 years, during which she says countless students, like Robert, have touched her life and her heart.

Golden Apple Award winner Lyn Rodgers says, “We all want to make a difference and it's so awesome when you finally do or someone tells you that we do and each of us do everyday. So, Robert, I thank you for that gift.”

18-year-old Robert Wolf wrote the nominating letter and says much of the academic success he now enjoys is because of her.

Wolf says, “There was one time in particular where I was struggling in the 4th grade and she was actually willing to come to my house and tutor me until I got up there.”

Mrs. Rodgers has known since she was in the 6th grade that teaching was her calling. For more than three decades, she's worked with first and second graders.

Rodgers says, “And just to see that look in their eyes and that light come on and be so excited about learning. I wanted to always just let kids be so excited about learning and know that learning doesn't just happen in the classroom but learning can happen in your kitchen, in your backyard and just to be on fire about books and learning.”
