FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central will talk about density and buoyancy.
Buoyancy is an upward force, a push, by a fluid on an object that’s in the fluid. An object is more buoyant if the force of fluid pushes it up. The object is less buoyant if it sinks down. Density is how much “stuff” (such as atoms of water) are in a volume (an amount of space). An object with greater density will sink in a fluid, and one that’s less dense might float.
Martin showed how to place an eye dropper in a 2-liter soda bottle. Squeezing the sides of the bottle causes the eye dropper to sink/have increased density/become less buoyant. If he stopped squeezing the sides, the eye dropper would float/have greater buoyancy/lower density.
