FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central will talk about solids and temperature using an Easter Peep.
A marshmallow Easter Peep is a solid. When a solid becomes colder, it can become “more solid”. This occurs as the marshmallow molecules have a lower temperature, move less and move closer together.
First, Martin struck a Peep with a hammer at room temperature. It was soft and squishy. When he made it colder, by freezing it in liquid nitrogen, and struck it with a hammer, it shattered like a typical hard, rigid solid.
