FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central will talk about carbon dioxide gas.
This gas is clear and colorless. Martin put some vinegar and baking soda into a clear jar. They combined and produced CO2 gas, which filled the jar.
To prove it was there, since it can’t be seen, Martin lowered a flame in the jar with CO2. The flame went out when he put it into the jar with CO2 gas, because the CO2 gas had displaced the normal atmospheric air (which has oxygen) which had been in the jar. Oxygen is needed for a fire to stay lit. Since the flame went out, it proved the jar was filled with the clear, colorless CO2 gas.
