FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- In this week's episode of Cool Science Monday, Martin Fisher from Science Central will talk about meteorites.

The term meteoroid means it’s out in space, meteor means it’s entered the Earth’s atmosphere, and meteorite means it reached the Earth. Meteorites can be made of stone, iron, or a mix called stony-iron.

Martin showed the metal one. Because it has iron, it was attracted to a magnet. He also showed a characteristic of the irons; when they’re sliced, etched with an acid and polished, a specific pattern (looks like a web of diamond shapes), called the Widmanstatten Pattern, will be visible.
