Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world to big oil, and it enslaves thousands of women in textile factories overseas. But what if there was a way we could take the power of this industry and use it for good?
Creative Women of the World (CWOW), a not-for-profit organization, is hosting its annual Empower Her World fashion show fundraiser on Sept. 29 to do just that.
This small shop in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne provides business training and marketing solutions for women around the world who are harnessing their own creativity to build better lives. CWOW also empowers women in our own community with business training and promotion.
On Sept. 29th, Empower Her World: A Celebration of Fashion and Culture will feature a fashion show of artisan clothes, jewelry and bags made by women around the world. Attendees can shop for CWOW boutique merchandise at an onsite marketplace, and all proceeds will fund future CWOW training programs and operations.
The celebration will have a cash bar and a live auction of fascinating items and experiences. It will also include a culinary adventure to the cuisine of Indonesia, with samplings of some traditional dishes in a classic celebratory meal known as Nasi Tumpeng. This includes golden rice mountain surrounded with satays, curries, twice cooked spiced duck, sambals, pickles, spicy eggs, gado gado (mixed vegetables with peanut/coconut dressing) and a variety of traditional Indonesian condiments, ending with Thousand Layers cake and traditional Indonesian cheese cake.
For the first time ever this year, CWOW is also inviting attendees to signup for the opportunity to travel with the organization on its global trips to help women start their businesses.
“This evening will present a first-hand account of how empowering women can change a community,” said Lorelei VerLee, CWOW’s Founder and Executive Director. “Behind each of these beautiful products is the story of a women and her family trying to create a dignified life.”
The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29th, from 6-9 p.m. at the Auer Center for Arts & Culture at 300 East Main Street. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online at GoCWOW.org/events or at the store at 125 W. Wayne Street.
