November 13, 2014 Updated Nov 13, 2014 at 11:32 AM EDT

Science Central has opened registration for its popular Winter Break Camps, which provide a fun alternative for children to spend time off during the holiday break from school or day care.

The camps explore a variety of fascinating and often unexpected aspects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and include hands-on labs and experiments.

Thirteen single-session camps and one six-day camp are offered on December 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30, and January 2.

Half-day camps for ages 3-5 include "Rainbows," "Gadgets and Gizmos," "Penguin Parade," "Candy Factory," "Things That Go Boom," and "Frozen: The Camp."

Full-day camps for ages 5-11 include "Alien Tracking," "Innovation Station," "Weird Science," "Candy Factory," "Things That Go Boom," and "Mystery Diagnosis."

The six-day camp for ages 8-11 is "Introduction to Lego Robotics," with campers designing, building and programming a robot.

A 10% early-bird discount is available for registrations by Nov. 28 for three days of camp in the same week. Half-day camps cost $25 for non-members and $20 for members, full-day camps cost $35 for non-members and $30 for members, and the six-day camp cost $125 for non-members and $115 for members.

For more information or to register on-line, visit www.sciencecentral.org, or call 260-424-2400, extension 451.
