Fort Wayne United Futbol Club (FWUFC) announces the 5th annual Shoot for a Cure soccer tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana May 1-3 at Hefner Soccer Fields. This community favorite brings many soccer teams from all over Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana to Fort Wayne in support of the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
FWUFC is Fort Wayne’s premier youth soccer club that operates out of The Plex, a large sporting complex with two locations on the North and South sides of Fort Wayne. The club hosts a number of tournaments year-round that attracts visitors to the city, and this tournament stands apart from the rest because of its focus on nonprofit fundraising. FWUFC’s Technical Director Paco Castillo puts pride in this tournament as it fosters friendly competition while teaching young athletes that a real-world difference can be made through the sports they play.
“This tournament is really special to us because it represents just how much the local Fort Wayne community cares about supporting great causes,” Castillo says. “It’s all about a local nonprofit organization specifically raising funds for another nonprofit organization doing amazing things, and we think that’s awesome.”
Last year’s tournament raised nearly $15,000 for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. This year, over 140 teams totaling nearly 2,500 players are due to compete. This event attracts a large crowd with an estimated total attendance of over 5,000 including families, officials, and spectators. We encourage the surrounding community to come take part in this exciting event. All profits from the pink merchandise purchased from the Summit City Soccer Shop go directly to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
