Fort Wayne’s first non profit low cost high quality spay/neuter clinic is set to begin operations on Tuesday, June 1st and will have a Grand Opening celebration on Memorial Day May 31st from 11-2 during which they will offer tours of the facility as well as free cursory exams, nail clippings, and a chance to meet our staff!.
The new clinic is located at 1333 Maycrest drive, near Lake and Hobson in Fort Wayne.

Operated by HOPE for Animals, a local non-profit group dedicated to reducing unnecessary euthanasia of pets, the mission of the clinic is to offer low cost sterilization to pet owners who could otherwise not afford it. “Every day 70,000 pets are born for every 10,000 people,” said Madeleine Laird Executive director of the clinic, “right now the solution is to euthanize all the “leftover” unwanted pets. On average we are euthanizing over 10,000 pets a year in Fort Wayne alone, about 4 million nationally. We feel strongly that educating the public and offering low cost sterilization is a better choice for our community.”

HOPE for Animals began in 2008 as a dog rescue and quickly grew to include cats. “After a couple of years, we realized we just weren’t making enough of an impact, there were just too many that needed homes” said Laird. After becoming involved with Spay Indiana and the Humane Alliance, Laird and HOPE President Melissa Stevenson went back to the board of directors and suggested revisiting their mission priorities. “We were all in agreement that we needed to find a way to help more pets and pet owners” said Stevenson.
Thanks to the generosity of local business, private donors and grants from PetSmart Charities® and Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation®, the HOPE Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic has become a reality and hopes to provide much needed services to pet owners in Northeast Indiana.
