Event Description

July 8, 2014 Updated Sep 8, 2014 at 1:26 PM EDT

The Indiana Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will host its annual Light The Night® fundraising Walk on Sunday, September 28 at Headwaters Park West.

Light The Night builds awareness about blood cancers and raises money to fund research, education and patient services. The event brings the community together to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer, while working together to continue progressing toward a cure. Last year, more than 500 attended the local Light The Night Walk, raising close to $80,000 to support the mission and goals of LLS.

Anyone is welcome to participate in Light The Night, either by forming a team through your company or group of friends and family, or by walking as an individual. Walkers raise funds prior to the event in an attempt to make the biggest impact possible. On September 28, participants will carry illuminated balloons along a predetermined route; one and two mile options will be available. White balloons will be carried by survivors, red by supporters and gold by individuals or teams walking in memory of a loved one lost.

Local blood cancer survivor Clifford Goss is this year’s Honored Hero and inspires walkers to fundraise through his story of survival and hope. Goss was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in December, 1997 when he was an undergraduate at Anderson University. He is now a proud survivor, husband and father of two children.
