Event Description

April 8, 2016 Updated Apr 8, 2016 at 11:02 AM EDT

Northeast Indiana Building Trades is holding their 3rd Annual Apprenticeship Fair at McMillen Park Community Center on Friday, April 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a free, open house style event for anyone who is interested in learning about a career in the construction industry. There will be trade demonstrations on site as well as informational booths and applications for apprenticeship programs.

A career in the trades offers livable wages, good health and welfare insurance plans, stable retirements, and most 3-5 year programs are partnered with Ivy Tech Community College to receive an Associated degree upon completion of the program along with a Department of Labor Journeyman’s card, which can travel with you all over the U.S., and in many cases, around the world. This is an opportunity to receive tuition free education and training, earning money while you learn a skilled trade with onsite job training. The construction industry is looking at around 30% growth in the next 5 years across the board, and we need people like you!

This year, we are partnered with the BUILD Program, Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation, El Mexicano Newspaper, Ivy Tech Community College, Northeast Indiana Works, Indiana National Guard and for the first time we are holding a Build a Better Community Food Drive with Associated Churches, which started April 1st and ends on April 15th with collection coming to an end at 2:00 p.m. on site at the McMillen Park Community Center.

Minimum requirements for employment in the Building Trades are: 18 + years of age, valid Driver’s license, reliable transportation, a high school diploma or equivalent, and ability to pass a drug screen.
