Summer Dance Classes

Yes, You "Will" on Shakespeare's Island
For Students Ages 10-18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder
This workshop aims to help students ages 10-18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) improve their ability to recognize emotions and enhance their communication skills. Games based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest" will be played throughout the class. A parent or caregiver is required to be in attendance with each student. CAA drama instructor Gloria Minnich received training in the Hunter Heartbeat Method (HHM) at Ohio State during the Shakespeare and Autism Workshop, working with students on the autism spectrum in small group settings. Each session will be led by Minnich, with assistance from a trained role model and helpers. New Summer Music Classes!
Pre-College Music Theory
Students must be able to read music! Sessions are focused on preparing students for successful entry into the college music theory curriculum for music majors. This class will cover major and minor scales and key signatures, intervals and chords with inversions. Class is taught by IPFW associate music faculty member Mitch Rorick.

Come Together Right Now at the Summer Beatles Seminar!
The presence of the Beatles, the Fab Four, is still with us. Many of their songs are still known and performed throughout the world. The transcendence of their music and lives invites us to study the impact of the Beatles and, perhaps, find some elements in their success that can apply to and impact our own lives.This class is for high school students and will be taught twice this summer by IPFW music faculty member Steve Walley. At the IPFW Community Arts Academy, we have partnered with new arts groups to bring you the following summer programs. Click on each name for more details.

•Woodwind Summer Music Week (June 6-10)
a day camp for beginning to advanced woodwind students ages 12 to 18. Offering instruction in flute and oboe, this program includes chamber music and introductory music theory classes.

•IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp & Festival (June 12-17)
aims to inspire young pianists (ages 12-18) to strive for artistic excellence and encourage them to reach their potential in piano study and performance. Students are immersed in all things piano, from a variety of workshops and group sessions to daily lessons, all to help them progress rapidly and continue to be excited about making music throughout the year.

•Summer String Camp (June 20-24)
features string orchestra, chamber ensembles and group classes for violin, viola, cello, bass, and guitar. Students must have a minimum of two years of string instruction to take part. Learn new music from Fort Wayne Philharmonic musicians in a week of string orchestra, group classes, and chamber music playing.

•Children's Choir Camp (June 27-July 1)
offers a chance to join in the fun and learn more about the art of singing. Under the direction of an experienced music educator from the Fort Wayne Children's Choir, singers will be introduced to basic music theory through musical games, instruction, and, of course, singing. The week culminates in a short program for parents and family members. This camp is for students entering 2nd-4th grade in the fall of 2016.

•Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (June-August)
CAA is co-sponsoring one of the choirs that will perform during the run of the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" this summer. Auditions are required for this choir made up of students ages 10-12 entering grades 4-6 in fall 2016. Rehearsals take place on the IPFW campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July.
