The school year may be done, but the Fort Wayne Philharmonic is just getting warmed up! The Phil’s 2013 Summer Season brings a wide variety of music to the Foellinger Theatre for four great concerts, and
thanks to a generous donor, every concert will be free to the public!
Patriotic Pops kicks off The Phil’s Summer Series on June 23. This Fort Wayne tradition begins the area’s Independence Day celebrations with a line-up of patriotic songs that celebrate everything that’s great about our country, including Yankee Doodle, the 1812 Overture, and a tribute to the veterans of our Armed Services.
I Love a Piano, the second concert of The Phil’s Summer Series, takes audiences through some of the greatest songs ever written for the ivories as accomplished pianist Rich Ridenour and vocalist Kathy Gibson join The Phil on Saturday, July 6. Ridenour and The Phil will take on everything from Rachmaninoff to Linus and Lucy,
including selections from Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, and songs by Henry Mancini, Elton John and Billy Joel.
On Saturday, July 27, Music Director Andrew Constantine leads The Phil in a 2013/14 Masterworks Preview performance with featuring soloists that will perform on the 2013/14 Masterworks season. Violinists Johanna Bourkova-Morunov and Olga Yurkova, clarinetist Campbell MacDonald and cellist Hikaru Tamaki will each be featured, performing selected movements from the Bach Double Concerto, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Hayden’s Cello Concerto. This concert is a great chance for you to experience a wide variety of music in one night.
Flamenco Fire closes The Phil’s 2013 Summer Season on Saturday, August 3. Guitarist Robert Michaels joins The Phil to give Fort Wayne a taste of everything flamenco guitar has to offer, including innovative sounds influenced by the music of Brazil, Italy, and Cuba and performance by flamenco dancer Melanie Buttarazzi.
All concerts will be held at the Foellinger Theatre in Franke Park and begin at 7:30 p.m. Although Summer Series concerts are free to the public, a general admission ticket is required for entry and concerts are expected to sell out. Special VIP packages are also available for $20 which includes prime general admission seating to all four Summer Series concerts.
Tickets for The Phil’s 2013 Summer Season concerts are available in advance by calling The Phil’s box office at 260 481-0777. Tickets for Patriotic Pops are available online at www.fwphil.org, and tickets for the rest of the series will be available online in the near future.
