The Old Crown Brass Band will be joined by local high school brass players and percussionists in a concert on May 15 at Auer Performance Auditorium on the campus of IPFW. Downbeat for the concert is 3:00 p.m.Highlights of the program will be performances of Holst's “First Suite in E flat”, “Carmen Suite for Brass Band”, “The British Eighth March” and “Bond, James, Bond”. In addition the cornet section will be featured in “Bugler's Holiday”.
The Youth Brass Ensemble is comprised of high school trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone and tuba players and percussionists selected by their band director to play with the Old Crown Brass Band. They rehearsed twice with the band and will play “side-by-side” at the concert.
Old Crown Brass Band recently competed in the North American Brass Band Association Championships held in Fort Wayne. The band finished in third place (of 7 bands) in the Third Section of the event. This was the first time the band competed in the third section. The band will welcome the North American Brass Band Association Championships back to Fort Wayne in 2017 and 2018.
The band is under the direction of T.J. Faur and Tony Alessandrini.
Admission is free and donations are encouraged.
