SCAN, Inc. (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) will be joining the Indiana Department of Child Services, Prevent Child Abuse Indiana and the Kids First Trust Fund to recognize the role of the community in protecting Indiana’s most vulnerable children at a 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, Candlelight Ceremony in Swinney Park.
According to the most recent data available from the Indiana Department of Child Services (2010), between one and two children each day in Allen County are victims of child maltreatment. The
public plays a crucial role in reporting and preventing abuse and neglect of children.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and blue and silver pinwheels will be placed at Swinney Park, along Main Street in front of the SCAN office and in other locations. The pinwheels are part of Prevent Child Abuse America’s grassroots campaign to transform awareness of the issue of child maltreatment into action. The pinwheel, a national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention, reflects the spontaneity and playfulness in a child and represents the goal of giving all children a chance at a healthy, happy life free of violence and neglect.
