DeTrash the Wabash event -- I am organizing a Mayor's Team of 8 - 12 people willing to wade a mile of the Wabash River picking up unnatural debris. The event is part of the City's MS-4 Initiative to keep our section of the Little River and the Wabash River Clean -- it is in conjunction with the Wabash River Heritage Corridor which is committed to protecting and promoting the beauty and heritage of the Wabash River system. The City of Wabash and the City of Peru are doing the same thing and have for the past three or four years. This is Huntington's first year.

The plan is to cover the Wabash River from the reservoir spillway to the Wabash County line; and the Little River from the old Mill Dam east of Jefferson Street to the Forks of the Wabash Park. We need about fourteen teams of 8-12 people to take roughly a mile section and pick up unnatural debris, i.e. trash, tires, junk, etc., The event is set for Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 700 AM to 1200 Noon, meeting at the Awakening Church on US 24 West near the Sheets Wildlife Museum. The rain date is set for August 3, 2013.
