CANSTRUCTION® 2012 in support of Community Harvest Food Bank.
CANSTRUCTION® gives us all an opportunity to stand and do something about hunger in our communities. All proceeds from this event go directly to Community Harvest Food Bank. Every can that is donated makes a significant difference to the families in NE Indiana who wake up with empty dining room tables and the day ends with their tables still empty.
We are continually trying to build awareness of this event that pairs local high schools students with IPFW student mentors to design and build structures entirely from food items. Not only is this event helping to end hunger, it is also instilling a culture of philanthropy in our area youth. It is teaching students to give generously of their time and talents.
It’s amazing the amount of passion that these children have for this cause. It is so exciting and refreshing to see area youth really make this event something special.
This is Community Harvest’s largest food drive by far as all food items are donated to Community Harvest Food Bank after the event.
Area high school students will begin building super-sized masterpieces at Glenbrook Square. The works of art serve many purposes. Talented students from all over northeast Indiana design and construct giant sculptures made with donated canned goods. During the “CANstruction exhibition” at Glenbrook Square visitors will be treated to an amazing display of artistry engineered using a combination of math, physics and creativity.
The structures will be judged in a variety of categories and the public will be invited to cast their votes for the best in each category with cans of food. As an added bonus, students and visitors will gain awareness of the plight of those less fortunate. At the end of the competition all food will be donated to Community Harvest Food Bank to help feed hungry people in northeast Indiana. CANstruction is the largest food drive annually for Community Harvest.
