Event Description

June 3, 2016 Updated Jun 3, 2016 at 11:04 AM EDT

The Alzheimer’s Association works with caregivers to enhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The Greater Indiana Chapter offers many education programs and care and support services for families throughout the disease. Comprehensive online resources are also available on our website at alz.org/indiana or by calling the 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900.

During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages everyone to uncover the truth about Alzheimer’s and to show their support for people living with the disease by doing the following:

•Participate in The Longest Day® on or before June 20, a sunrise-to-sunset event to honor those facing Alzheimer’s disease with strength, heart and endurance.

•Join the Alzheimer’s Association in wearing purple throughout the month. Share photos of yourself, family, friends and co-workers wearing the movement’s signature color via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. with the hashtag #ENDALZ.

•Join us at the Fort Wayne TinCaps vs. Dayton Dragons game on June 5 at Parkview Field. The Alzheimer’s Association will be the featured community organization, an Association volunteer will throw the first pitch and attendees will have the chance to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease throughout the game. Help us turn Parkview Field purple! The game starts at 1 p.m.

•Support the Anne Kostoff Memorial Softball Game to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease on June 20. The game, put together by local Eagle Scout Jonathan Thomas, will start at 7 p.m. at the University of St. Francis Baseball Field. Current teams include WANE TV and Adams Radio Group, and the event hopes to collect items to bring comfort to Alzheimer’s patients such as coloring books, dolls and jigsaw puzzles.

•Swiss Village in Berne, Ind. will celebrate The Longest Day on Monday, June 20 with a day of activities. Staff and participants will be walking around the Swiss Village Campus from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For those interested, a marathon of fitness classes will be taking place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m at the Arthur & Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion. Classes include Sculpt and Tone, Senior Yoga, Zumba and many more. Swiss Village will also be selling purple shirts to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and Swiss Village Music & Memory Program.

•On Saturday, June 25, join the Iota Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority for AKA’s Bowl for Alzheimer’s at Andorfer Commons, located at 1600 E. Washington Blvd., in Fort Wayne. This fun night of bowling will take place from 6:08 to 9:08 p.m., and benefits the Alzheimer’s Association as part of The Longest Day.

•Visit alz.org/indiana/abam to uncover the critical truths about Alzheimer’s and why they matter.
