The Marion Municipal recently announced they will hold the 23rd annual Fly/In Cruise/In on Saturday, August 31. Admission and parking for this event will remain free to the public.
The event, a community tradition for more than two decades, features a number of air and motor vehicles. The Tri-Motor Ford 5-AT will offer rides from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday with the purchase of a ticket. Food tickets for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast are also available for purchase, and all proceeds from those sales will benefit the Marion High School Band.
Marion Municipal Airport prides itself on having one of the premier fly-in events throughout the Midwest. While the primary purpose of the event is to raise funds for the Marion High School Band Boosters, the event also provides the airport with a number of ways to educate attendees from as far away as Washington and Minnesota on aviation. The event draws the community together while also providing opportunities to learn more about aviation and the local airport facilities. It is also sponsored by many local businesses and aviation-related businesses throughout the region.
Among the many attractions is the BD-5 MicroJet, a high-performance, aerobatic, low-wing, jet-powered aircraft built from an amateur homebuilder kit.Other attractions include the 1929 Tri-Motor Ford as well as rotorcraft and warbird aircraft, vintage cars, trucks, autocycles, military vehicles and tractors.
