The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County is hosting the 3rd Annual Walk for Hope. The Walk for Hope not only raises money for teen suicide prevention but awareness of the prevalence of suicide in our community. A youth dies by suicide every 4 days in Indiana. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for teens.
The Walk for Hope will be held on Saturday, September 21. Registration is at 6:30pm and the walk begins at 7:00 pm.
It is a two mile walk that begins and ends at Huntington North High School. Each walker carries a candle as a memorial for someone they have lost or as a sign of hope for someone who is struggling.
Money raised will support the suicide prevention efforts of the Youth Services Bureau and the Teen Suicide Prevention Task Force.
Goals of the county wide task force are:
1. Intervention on a unified, prompt, and comprehensive manner to support youth who are contemplating suicide.
2. To provide community awareness through trainings and other events.
3. To educate adults and youth on how to take an active role in prevention.
