Location: Bixler Lake Park
Don’t let the Olympic spirit fade after the Closing Ceremony, join the Kendallville Parks Department on August 18th at 9:00 am for a Kids Triathlon. It is for ages 5-15 years.
The Triathlon involves biking, running and swimming! As an added bonus, hometown Olympian Amy Yoder Begley will be there encouraging the kids, giving pep talks, and signing autographs. It will be a great time to meet an Olympian and ask her questions about training at an elite level. The triathlon will be held at Bixler Lake Park where Amy began running as a 10 year old.
Amy went from Bixler Lake to a four-time State Champion at East Noble High School and a 15-time NCAA All-American at the University of Arkansas. By a very close margin, she made the 2008 Olympic Team in the 10,000 meters on the track. The experience was overwhelming but she learned a lot. She took that experience to the 2009 World Track meet and placed 6th in the world in the 10,000 meters. She has been injured the last couple of years but is looking forward to getting back on the track in 2013. Come to the Kids Triathlon and wish her luck in her comeback as she inspires the next hometown Olympic hopefuls.
The focus of the event will be on having every child cross the finish line. Awards will be given to the top 3 winners in each age category and ALL participants will receive a participation award. The DEADLINE FOR REGISTERING IS AUGUST 6th.
For more information and to register download the forms at http://www.kendallville-in.org/forms/kids_triathalon.pdf or contact the Park office at 260-347-1064. The triathlon is limited to 100 participants. Sign-up today!
