More than 17,500 plastic duckies are waiting for race day where winners compete for a chance to win $1 million*, plus 27 other quacktastic prizes in the 27th Annual Weigand Construction Duck Race to Benefit SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect). The event will take place on the St. Joseph River at Johnny Appleseed Park Boat Ramp at approximately 11 a.m.
This year’s race is the highest grossing race to date, and has raised a record breaking $184,000. This year’s event was previously scheduled for June 20, but due to flooding was rescheduled for July 25th. This year was the first in the race’s history that the race has been rescheduled. The extra four weeks held a silver lining and has allowed SCAN to continue to sell ducks.
Unfortunately, the rains of June and July have impacted the stripe of land adjacent to the river where children’s carnival games are held on race day. As such, the children’s games are cancelled for this year; however, a “race viewing” space for spectators will be created near the river bank to ensure the public can view the race at a safe distance. Please note, due to the unknown conditions of the river on Saturday, a specific race time cannot be given; and the race may occur prior to 11 a.m. SCAN will announce the winners following the race and race results will be available online at www.scanfw.org/duckrace.html
Proceeds for the Duck Race ensure SCAN can continue to provide life-changing services that protect children, prepare parents, strengthen families, and educate our community to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect. Sponsoring a duck means you are helping us achieve you mission and helping keep children safe!
