This thundering concert is brimming with exciting music. The evening begins with Danza Furioso by Jonathan Ovalle, a very quick and lively Spanish-inspired piece for xylophone soloist and marimba ensemble. Next is Anthony Korf’s Blue Rhythm Quintet, dedicated to drumming legend Gene Krupa, followed by Big Country, Bela Fleck’s popular composition for large percussion ensemble. Performed for the first time at IPFW, the concert concludes with Fandango 13 by Michael Burritt. Composed for six percussionists, the piece is full of mesmerizing forward momentum: a perfect balance of drums, percussion, and melodic percussion instruments.
